Thermal coal, also known as steam coal,is a grade between bituminous coal and anthracite, and generally is used in power generation.

Asia is the largest market for steam coal, with China, Japan and South Korea being the top three thermal coal importers. On the supply side, Indonesia, Australia and Russia are the top three export nations of thermal coal.
